OpenReason · What it is

Reasoning you can inspect, fork, and verify.

OpenReason Protocol records how a decision was reached — where the data came from, what was assumed, who is affected, who decided what — in a structured, machine-readable form. Not a report you take on trust. A simulatable object: anyone can fork it and re-run it with different assumptions to see what changes.

For people

Inspect & challenge

Document, inspect, fork and challenge the reasoning behind a decision. Trust comes from argument and cited sources — not authority.

For machines

Verify & enforce

Verify a dataset offline, enforce what may be done with it, and prove use — a signed passport an agent checks itself. Added in v0.3.

Who it’s for 02
Policymakers & analysts
Publish reasoning others can scrutinise on substance, not politics.
Researchers & AI teams
Document dataset provenance, consent and limitations under a real standard.
Agents & rails
Accept a data product only when its passport verifies and its usage policy allows.
What it is not 03

OpenReason exposes reasoning; it does not recommend conclusions, fact-check claims, or resolve disagreement by vote. It attests to provenance and reasoning — never to the truth of the data.
